Cleveland Harbor Belt Railway Established for Port Authority Ops…
CLEVELAND, OH – MAY 10, 2012 – The Cleveland Commercial Railroad Company, LLC (CCR) has established the Cleveland Harbor Belt Railroad (CHB) to operate approximately one mile of terminal trackage currently owned by the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Auhtority (CCPA) in Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, the CHB will gain approximately six miles of incidental trackage rights from downtown Cleveland to CSXT’s Collinwood Yard, east of downtown.
CHB will replace operations by both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern on the privately-owned CCPA trackage. The CCPA is currently expanding the port and associated trackage as part of a facility upgrade and CHB will be the operator of this trackage. CCR has already executed the agreement with the CCPA and plans on operating under the agreement for a three-year period, effective on June 1, 2012, but not likely seeing operations commence until June 7, 2012.
Although CCR operates other trackage in the south Cleveland area, the new lines will remain 12 miles apart from any connection. CCR became the designated operator of a Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company (W&LE) line between milepost 15.5 at Falls Junction in Glenwillow, OH and milepost 5.1 in Cleveland, OH in 2004. In 2009, CCR leased and began operating approximately 25.3 miles of Norfolk Southern-owned line between milepost RH2.2 in Cleveland, OH and milepost RH 27.5 at Aurora, OH, connecting the two lines.
