MUNCIE, IN – MAY 9, 2012 – Norfolk Southern’s order of SD70ACe locomotives have begun being released from the Progress Rail paint booth in the planned heritage schemes. The first unit out of the facility is the NS 1065, wearing the Savannah & Atlanta Railway scheme.  The S&A began life as the Brinson Railway in 1906, slowly expanding from Savannah toward the Northwest. It was consolidated with other small railroads to become the Savannah & Atlanta in 1917. Central of Georgia bought the S&A in 1951.

The first three units are to be released before the end of May, with the remainder slated for early June.  The units and their schemes are expected to be:

NS 1066 – New York Central Railroad

NS 1067 – Reading Lines

NS 1068 – Erie

NS 1069 – Virginian

NS 1070 – Wabash

NS 1071 – Central Railroad of New Jersey

NS 1072 – Illinois Terminal

NS 1073 – Penn Central
